I recently spent a week singing with the European Cathedral Singers at Bristol Cathedral. This photo shows the choir stalls, from which we sang Choral Evensong each evening.
Two and a half years ago I took a trip to Churchill, Canada with my dad and sister. We travelled up by train from Toronto (a trip that lasts 3 days) and then spent 3 days in Churchill trying out dogsledding, taking a polar buggy out on the tundra to see the bears, and watching bears being airlifted out by helicopter from the polar bear jail.
A chance comment today reminded me of the trip I took to Svalbard 2 years ago. To me, this photograph sums up the solitude of the location and the wonder I felt at experiencing the midnight sun for the first time. I stayed out on deck that first evening long after my shipmates had got to bed, drawn by the stillness and clarity of the light.
